Chess is Crack!

I just need one more hit! Well, in all honesty, I’m not really back on the pipe. The last time I spent an unholy amount on serious chess studies was back  in early 2008. I decided then that I had had enough of chess. The title of this post was borrowed from a comment BDK made about my approach to chess. I have never been able to actually study chess in a moderate manner. When I studied chess it was all or nothing. I woke up, played some blitz at breakfast, packed my chess books and read them on the tram on my way to the university. I solved tactics whenever I had a moment left over and the last thing I saw before I closed my eyes and went to sleep was checkered, black and white. In the end my obsession with the game became a bit too much and I decided to quit.

So what the hell am I doing here? Well, I never really quit playing chess. I’ve been playing blitz on a daily basis and I still love the game as much as the next crack head. But lately I’ve also started missing studying the game and evolving as a player. I also miss the heat of  a really nerv wrecking battle and the tournaments. So I guess it’s time to unpack the books, dust of the ol’ board and get ready for some serious gambit play! Now where did I put that pipe?

To be continued…
